Key takeaways

5
  • A pinata party spawns a mob that players hit together, with rewards when it breaks and sometimes on each hit.
  • AT-PinataParty (made by our team) is free, needs no other plugins, runs on 1.19.4 and newer and scales required hits to the online player count.
  • PinataParty is a paid plugin built around vote goals that summon the pinata; vote servers need NuVotifier or VotifierPlus.
  • BenthPinata and xPinataParty are free and add automatic spawning, leaderboards and boss bars; xPinataParty requires Vault.
  • Run only one pinata plugin at a time and protect the spawn area before your first party.

This post is for server owners who want a quick, noisy event that pulls everyone to one spot: a pinata party. By the end you will know what these plugins actually do, how four of them differ, and how to install one on a VPS, a Pterodactyl panel or Multicraft.

What a pinata party does on a Minecraft server

A pinata party plugin spawns a mob (usually a llama) somewhere players can reach it. Everyone runs over and hits it. Hits count toward breaking it, and when it breaks the plugin hands out rewards, often with fireworks, sounds and a title on screen. Some plugins also give small rewards on individual hits, or a bonus to whoever lands the final blow.

Why owners add one:

  • It gathers players. A mob in the middle of spawn with a hit counter above it is hard to ignore.
  • It rewards being online. Everyone who joins in gets something, not just the strongest PvP player.
  • It fits moments you already have. Restarts, player count milestones, vote goals or a weekend event.

The plugins differ mostly in three things: how the party starts (by command, on a timer, or from votes), what it needs installed alongside it, and how much extra it layers on top (boss bars, leaderboards, piñata abilities).

Version support also varies. AT-PinataParty's Spigot page lists Minecraft 1.19.4 and newer. PinataParty's Spigot page lists testing from 1.13 up to 26.2, BenthPinata lists 1.13.x to 1.21.x on Modrinth, and xPinataParty lists 1.20.1 to 1.21.4. Check your server version against the plugin page before you pick.

AT-PinataParty: a free llama pinata with no dependencies

AT-PinataParty is made by our team and is free. A pinata spawns, players swarm it, and every swing has a chance to register. The number of hits needed scales with how many players are online, so a quiet evening and a busy Saturday both get a party that lasts a sensible amount of time. The final break sets off a firework finale and rewards everyone who took part.

What it does

  • Any mob as the pinata, with glow, particles and effects. Llama pinatas get a colour-cycling rainbow carpet.
  • Chance-based hits with anti-spam cooldowns, so click spam does not end the party in seconds.
  • Named spawn points, either fixed spots or random 3D zones.
  • Optional knockback when the pinata is hit.
  • Fireworks, sounds and titles on the final break.
  • Config-driven everything: the mob, spawn points, hit chances, reward pools, fireworks and every message.

What it needs

Nothing is required. Floating hit counters are built in, so you do not need a hologram plugin. If you already run DecentHolograms or FancyHolograms, it detects them automatically. For money rewards, add Vault plus an economy plugin; item and command rewards work without it. It runs on Spigot and its forks such as Paper and Purpur, on Minecraft 1.19.4 and newer according to its Spigot page.

Who it suits: survival, SMP and minigame hubs on 1.19.4 or newer that want a light event to run at restarts, milestones, vote parties or just to keep spawn lively, without installing extra libraries.

PinataParty: the vote party pinata

PinataParty (Interactive Event) is a paid plugin on SpigotMC, and it is pitched as an all in one voting system. Instead of a plain "vote party" that hands out items when the server hits a vote goal, the goal summons a pinata that players then have to beat.

  • Vote goals spawn the pinata automatically, with cumulative vote rewards and an offline vote queue.
  • The pinata can fight back with abilities such as teleporting, knockback and speed boosts, and it can pathfind around.
  • Boss health bar, custom particles and a material whitelist for what players can hit with.
  • Permission-based hit damage modifiers, so ranks can hit harder if you want that.
  • Optional money-based summoning and PlaceholderAPI support, plus developer events.

To reward votes and auto-summon the pinata from votes, your server needs a Votifier plugin: the page names NuVotifier or VotifierPlus, and the author advises against the old original Votifier.

Who it suits: servers that lean on voting sites for growth and want the vote party itself to be the event. If you set up rank-based damage, our LuckPerms ranks guide covers building the groups those permissions go on.

BenthPinata: many pinata types and automatic events

BenthPinata is free and open source under the MIT licence, published on Modrinth. It goes wide on configuration: you can define several pinata types, each with its own settings and mob.

  • An ability system that triggers special effects as the pinata loses health.
  • Tiered rewards: per-hit, milestone and final rewards.
  • Holograms, boss bars and visual feedback. Holograms can be packet-based with ProtocolLib, or use DecentHolograms instead, and the plugin still works with neither.
  • Automatic events by interval, player count or specific times.
  • Statistics and leaderboards through /pinata stats top, plus PlaceholderAPI support.

Who it suits: owners who want parties to run on a schedule without staff typing a command, and who like tracking which players deal the most damage.

xPinataParty: tiers, boss mode and Discord alerts

xPinataParty is free on SpigotMC. Its pinata is a llama with a health bar, and it adds a layer of variety on top.

  • Three difficulty tiers: Bronze, Silver and Gold pinatas.
  • A boss mode pinata that spawns with special effects.
  • Animated holograms, an RGB boss bar, movement when hit and timed auto-spawn.
  • A leaderboard for top contributors and Discord webhook announcements.
  • Commands such as /pinata summon, /pinata destroy, /pinata stats and /pinata schedule, with xpinata.use and xpinata.admin permissions.

It requires Vault, so install that first.

Who it suits: servers on 1.20.1 to 1.21.4 that want rarity and a "boss" moment, and that already announce events on Discord.

Which pinata party plugin to pick

  • You want it running in five minutes with nothing else installed: AT-PinataParty (made by our team) if you are on 1.19.4 or newer, or BenthPinata.
  • Votes should trigger the party: PinataParty is designed around that, with NuVotifier or VotifierPlus installed.
  • Parties should start on their own on a timer: BenthPinata and xPinataParty both list automatic spawning.
  • You want leaderboards for top hitters: BenthPinata or xPinataParty.
  • Your server is on an older version such as 1.16: check PinataParty or BenthPinata, which list support back to 1.13.

Install a pinata plugin on your server

All four install the same way: download the jar from the plugin's official page, put it in the plugins folder, add any required dependency (Vault for xPinataParty), and restart. If you run PinataParty on a vote server, add NuVotifier or VotifierPlus as well so votes reach it. Take a backup before adding plugins to a live server.

  1. Stop the server from its console with stop.
  2. Upload the jar, for example with scp PluginName.jar user@your-server:/path/to/server/plugins/, or download it straight into the folder with wget.
  3. Start the server again with your usual start script, for example ./start.sh.
  4. Check the console for the plugin's enable message and for any missing dependency errors.
  1. Open the Backups tab and create a backup.
  2. Go to the File Manager, open the plugins folder and upload the jar (or use SFTP with the details shown on the Settings page).
  3. Restart the server from the Console.
  4. Watch the Console output for the plugin loading cleanly.
  1. Stop the server from the main panel page.
  2. Open Files, then the FTP file access page, and upload the jar into plugins.
  3. Start the server and read the console for the plugin's load message.

Set up your first party

These steps are the same on every host, because they happen in the plugin's config files and in game.

  1. Pick where the pinata spawns. An open area at spawn works well. AT-PinataParty supports named spawn points or random 3D zones; the others let you set locations in config or by command.
  2. Protect the area. Players will crowd in and swing at everything nearby, so make sure blocks cannot be broken there. Our WorldGuard safe zones guide shows how to lock down spawn while still allowing the event.
  3. Set the rewards. Start small: a few common items on break, a slightly better reward for the last hit if your plugin supports it. You can raise them once you see how often parties run.
  4. Tune the difficulty. Hit counts, health or hit chance decide how long a party lasts. Aim for a minute or two with your usual player count.
  5. Run a test party with a staff member or two, then reload the config after changes.

Once it feels right, tie it to a moment players can expect, such as every restart or every vote goal, and announce it in chat and on Discord so people log in for it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a pinata party to my Minecraft server?

Download a pinata plugin from its official page, put the jar in your plugins folder and restart the server. Add any required dependency first, such as Vault for xPinataParty, or a Votifier plugin if votes should trigger PinataParty. Then set a spawn location and rewards in the plugin's config and run a test party.

Can a pinata party start automatically from votes?

PinataParty (Interactive Event) on SpigotMC is built around this: reaching a vote goal spawns the pinata. It needs NuVotifier or VotifierPlus to receive votes. BenthPinata and xPinataParty list automatic spawning on a timer instead, which suits servers that do not rely on voting.

Do pinata plugins need a hologram plugin?

Not for AT-PinataParty or BenthPinata. AT-PinataParty has floating hit counters built in and detects DecentHolograms or FancyHolograms if you already run one. BenthPinata works without hologram plugins and can use ProtocolLib or DecentHolograms if present.

Is there a free pinata party plugin?

Yes. AT-PinataParty, BenthPinata and xPinataParty are all free according to their pages. PinataParty (Interactive Event) is a paid resource.
