Key takeaways

5
  • We could not confirm the setup's own version, software or dependency list, so read the BuiltByBit listing before installing.
  • EcoItems needs Auxilor's eco framework, and its free edition limits how many custom items you can create.
  • TAB (Apache 2.0) and CrazyVouchers (MIT) are free and run on Paper, Purpur, Spigot and Folia.
  • Paper 26.1 and newer needs Java 25, and 1.20 to 1.21.11 needs Java 21. On a panel, pick that Docker image or ask your host.
  • Install on a fresh or fully backed up server, keep the folder structure, and keep the first console log for support.

This post is for server owners getting ready to install Ultimate RPG Survival, a premade server setup that NitroSetups sells on BuiltByBit. By the end you will have a checklist of what to confirm on the listing, the facts on four plugins you may be asked to add, and install steps for a VPS, Pterodactyl or Multicraft.

The BuiltByBit listing would not load for our checks today, so we could not confirm the setup's own requirements, features, Minecraft version or dependency list. Everything below about plugins and server software comes from those projects' own pages.

What to confirm on the listing before you install

A server setup is a package of configured plugins, menus and worlds rather than a single plugin, so the listing and its own instructions are what you follow. Before you upload anything, open the listing and write down:

  • The exact Minecraft version the current release targets.
  • Which server software it expects (for example Paper or Purpur).
  • Any plugins you have to download or buy yourself, and where from.
  • Which files or folders from the download go to the server root.
  • Which add-ons are sold separately, and how support and updates are handled.

With those answers in hand, the rest of this post helps you check each piece before the first start.

Plugins to know if the listing asks you to add them

If the listing's dependency section names any of the plugins below, here is what their own pages say. If it names others, check each one on its official page the same way: what it needs, which platforms it runs on, and whether it is free or paid.

PluginWhat it doesFree or paidNeeds or runs on
EcoItemsCustom items built from config filesFree edition with limits, paid edition without themNeeds eco
ecoAuxilor's framework that their plugins run onFree, MIT licenceSpigot based servers
TABTab list, nametags, scoreboard and bossbarFree, Apache 2.0Paper, Purpur, Folia, Spigot and more
CrazyVouchersVouchers and codes that hand out rewardsFree, MIT licencePaper, Purpur, Spigot and Folia

EcoItems and eco

EcoItems lets you create custom items in YAML without writing code. It runs on Auxilor's libreforge effects system, which gives you hundreds of effects, conditions and triggers to combine.

EcoItems will not run on its own. It needs eco, Auxilor's open source plugin framework, installed as a separate jar in the same plugins folder.

TAB and CrazyVouchers

TAB controls what players see around the edges of the screen: the tab list, nametags, scoreboard and bossbar. When you rebrand any setup, its config is where your server name and colours usually need changing.

CrazyVouchers turns items such as paper into vouchers and codes that give players a reward when redeemed, so rewards can be held, stored or traded as items.

Match Paper or Purpur and the Java version

When we checked the Paper downloads page today, 26.2 was the stable release and builds for 26.3 were marked experimental. Run the version the listing names, even when a newer one appears, until the seller says the newer one is supported.

The Paper docs tie the Java version to the Minecraft version:

Minecraft versionJava Paper needs
1.17 to 1.19Java 17
1.20 to 1.21.11Java 21
26.1 and newerJava 25

Purpur is open source server software based on Paper, under the MIT licence, with extra configuration and gameplay options. It runs plugins written for the Bukkit, Spigot and Paper APIs, so if the listing accepts Purpur, your plugin choices stay the same.

Install the setup step by step

Install it on a fresh server or one you have fully backed up. Mixing a premade setup into an existing world and config folder is hard to undo.

  1. Unzip the download on your own computer and find the files the setup's instructions tell you to upload.
  2. Upload them to the server root, keeping the folder structure exactly as it is.
  3. Add the Paper or Purpur jar for the version the listing names.
  4. Put any plugins you had to get yourself (and libraries such as eco) into plugins.
  5. Start the server, read the console for plugins that fail to enable, then give yourself operator.
  6. Install any optional add-ons last, following their own instructions.

Upload with SFTP or scp, check Java, then start the server in screen, tmux or a systemd service:

java -version
cd /opt/minecraft
java -Xms4G -Xmx4G -jar paper.jar --nogui

The memory values are the example from the Paper docs, so size them to your machine. Give yourself operator by typing op YourName in the console.

Stop the server in the Console. Upload the files over SFTP (the details are on the Settings page), or upload a zip in the File Manager and unarchive it there. In the Startup tab, pick the Java image your version needs from the Docker Image list (Java 25 for 26.1 and newer) and make sure the server jar variable matches your Paper or Purpur jar. If that image is not offered, your host controls the images, so ask them to add it. Start the server and run op YourName in the Console.

Stop the server and upload the files through the Files or FTP page with an FTP client. Choose the matching Paper or Purpur jar in the JAR selection. Multicraft hosts usually tie the Java version to the jar, so if the server will not start, ask your host to run it on the Java version your Minecraft version needs. Start the server and type op YourName in the console.

Make it yours before players join

  • Rebrand the screen edges first. If the setup uses TAB, its config holds the tab list, scoreboard and bossbar text, so swap in your server name and colours there.
  • Review ranks and permissions. If you want to rename ranks or change what each one gets, our guide to LuckPerms groups, prefixes and promotions walks through groups, inheritance and tracks.
  • Guard the spawn. Our walkthrough on WorldGuard safe zones for spawn, shops and arenas shows how to keep PvP, mobs and griefing out of any areas you add.
  • Back up before updates. Copy the whole server folder before applying a setup update, since an update can overwrite menus and configs you have edited.

Before you open, play the first hour on a fresh non-operator account. Broken permissions and rewards that are too generous show up much faster that way than from an admin account.

Who a premade RPG setup suits

  • A good fit if you would rather upload a configured server than build one plugin by plugin, and you are happy to run the software and version the listing names.
  • Budget time for the extras: read the listing for anything you must get yourself or buy separately before you plan your launch date.
  • Less of a fit if your host cannot offer the Java version your Minecraft version needs; ask them before you buy.

Frequently asked questions

Which plugins do I need to add to the NitroSetups RPG Survival setup?

We could not confirm this, because the BuiltByBit listing would not load for our checks. Read the listing's dependency section before you buy, and check each named plugin on its official page for what it needs and whether it is free or paid.

Is EcoItems free?

EcoItems has a free edition on SpigotMC that limits how many custom items and recipes you can create, and a paid edition without that limit. Both need Auxilor's eco framework installed alongside.

Which Java version does a Paper server need?

The PaperMC docs say Minecraft 26.1 and newer needs Java 25, while 1.20 to 1.21.11 needs Java 21. Match it to the Minecraft version your setup targets.

Can I install a premade server setup on Pterodactyl hosting?

Yes. Upload the files over SFTP or as a zip in the File Manager, choose the right Java image in the Startup tab and set the jar to Paper or Purpur. If the image you need is missing, ask your host to add it.
